The owner of a former Freemason’s hall being sold in the tiny town of Woomelang has revealed they had to clean up a dirty secret after buying it.

And despite spending thousands of dollars in the process, she’s listed it for sale with a $50,000 asking price.

Once used by members of the men-only fraternal organisation, the white-brick hall at 11 Carr St is about 360km northwest of Melbourne just south of Sea Lake.

The former Masonic hall spans about 275sqm and is dominated by two open-plan rooms.

The unusual property still has the symbols of its former owners on the front wall.

It also includes a kitchen, toilets and storage space.

Owner Winnie Williams says she fell in love with the character of the property, including the square and compass symbol of the organisation on the front wall and brick columns along its exterior.

“I loved it because it looks a bit like a church, and I really admire those old buildings that have that extra decoration,” Williams says.

The interior is almost entirely open plan.

But she’s had to clean up a dirty secret hidden inside when she bought it.

Pigeon droppings.

In addition to repairing the roof, Williams had a substantial cleaning bill to get rid of the mess created by birds that had landed inside.

Now retired, Williams has decided to sell the property rather than renovate it further.

While a renovation is still needed, the property is finally clean.

Walshe and Whitelock sales consultant Michael Sowersby says it is already attracting interest with almost a month still to go before its February 13 auction.

“It’s only been up online for about five days and we have had a few inquiries from people looking for a weekend getaway,” Sowersby says.

“I’m sure we will get some interest at the auction, especially at this prise point.”

Realestate.com.au listings show houses in the tiny town cost about $165,000.
