About Michael Smart
42 years experience
Born in South Australia in 1961, Michael’s family moved to Western Australia in 1962 to purchase a sheep station on the Murchison River near Kalbarri, north of Geraldton which the family owned until 1977. Michael boarded from year 7 to 12 at Christ Church Grammar School in Claremont from 1973 – 1978 until he matriculated and attended the
University of WA (where he met his wife, Karen) studying economics from 1979 – 1980 before withdrawing from study, and entering the workforce as a farm labourer and machine operator from 1981 – 1983.
In January 1984 Michael embarked on a real estate career at a small boutique West Perth office before joining the Mair & Co Franchise group in November 1984 at the Mair & Co Maddington office. Michael stayed with the Mair group for 9 years and in that time was appointed Sales Manager at the new Mair & Co Cannington office in 1989, the same address where he operates from now.
In 1992 Michael became a partner in the business and in 1993 Mair Group was amalgamated with The Peet & Co Group to form Ray White Western Australia.
In 1996 Michael and his wife Karen became sole owners of the business ‘Ray White Cannington’ and are still building the business today. Michael & Karen have 2 adult children, Jessica and Cameron who both initially worked part time in the business whilst they were studying. Cameron has been a full time sales representative since mid 2008.
During this time, now 30 years, Michael has been selling all types of land and property in Cannington and surrounding suburbs and attributes his success to having a long term attitude when dealing with clients, and giving the “right advice” that is best for the clients personal situation in the long term. He believes that the business of real estate is very similar to farming the land like his father did.
You reap what you sow, and you must look after the land and treat it well for long term success.
