About Alex Cook

13 years experience

Alex started with ResortBrokers back in 2011, after he and his wife Carla (who is also our Marketing Manager) moved to Brisbane after spending a decade living and working in London. Today they live in West End, Brisbane, with their three young daughters (conveniently about 500m from ResortBrokers HQ).

Alex’s initial role at ResortBrokers was as an area agent at the north end of the Gold Coast, primarily selling management rights. Despite starting in the thick of the GFC, he quickly became one of our top brokers. During his first decade at ResortBrokers he sold c 200 properties with a combined value of c $400m.

Along the way, he has notched up several record-breaking benchmarks and has acted on some of the most noteworthy transactions in the industry. These include The Beach Apartments – branded AVANI (Broadbeach, GC), Soul (Surfers Paradise), Beach Haven (Broadbeach, GC), Australia 108 (Southbank, Melbourne), AVANT (CBD, Melbourne) and Signature (Broadbeach, GC), to name a few.

Alex has taken a more senior role at ResortBrokers in recent years. He now focusses on larger transactions nationwide, with particular attention on the development/off-the-plan space as well as the short-stay/hotel space (often combined together). Appointed as Director in 2018, he now also assists with the general operation of the company, in particular in identifying opportunities for future growth.

He has had particular success in Melbourne in recent years, assisting several high-profile developers in establishing and selling short-stay businesses within their projects. In 2019/20, Alex campaigned the Victorian State Government to make changes to the Owners Corporation Bill, which included a Section that would threaten the future establishment of certain short-stay businesses. He successfully argued the cause and worked with the Government to secure a key amendment to the Bill.

Having studied History at university, Alex also has a particular interest in writing and proofreading. He regularly writes articles on behalf of ResortBrokers, contributing to the accommodation industry magazine Informer, and other industry media outlets. Alex is regularly invited to speak at specialist industry and seminar events, and was awarded the inaugural ARAMA Broker of the Year in 2019.

Alex is very proud of his wide-ranging and long-established relationships with key stakeholders across sectors of the industry, and recognises the value in top-level service, discretion, over-riding integrity and detailed specialist knowledge.

As soon as the Brisbane floodwaters of January 2011 subsided, Alex started his career with Resort Brokers. Working primarily in the management rights sector, his geographical patch covers the northern end of the Gold Coast, from Coomera down to Surfers Paradise, and inland to suburbs such as Pacific Pines and Arundel.

Today, Alex is our most experienced agent in our Gold Coast team and works closely with his two colleagues, Carolyn and Lyn, to ensure that our clients in the region receive the best service possible. He is one of the most prolific management rights agents on the GC, having sold around 40 properties in the last couple of years. Alex also runs and presents at quarterly seminars aimed at newcomers to the management rights industry.

Having studied History at university, Alex also has a particular interest in writing and proofreading. Thankful that his degree has finally proven to be a bit useful, he regularly writes articles on behalf of Resort Brokers and contributes heavily to our Informer magazine.

As well as focusing on Gold Coast management rights, Alex is a specialist broker for Quest Serviced Apartment franchises. QSA operate under a unique model where franchisees (typically mum and dad operators) purchase long-term leases and operate under the Quest banner with significant head office support. Alex works closely with Quest in Queensland to bring new franchisees into the group.

Alex has a very long-term approach to our industry, which is not surprising as he plans to be working in it for the next 30 years! ‘It’s not just about the next sale; it’s about helping people make the right choices that will benefit their lives for years to come. My focus is not on selling, but on building lasting relationships’.
